To guarantee the best results, I like to follow a process when building websites. It’s an established method that works for almost all cases, but don’t worry if you’re not all cases – my partners and I are problem-solvers and will tailor our process to suit your needs.
Step 1: Strategic Conversations
Though pleasant dialogue, I learn the details of your business and clientele. I take the time to understand what your goals are for the website and together we determine the user experience you want your visitors to have.
Step 2: Layout and Content
This is where we do the fun stuff – deciding on the content and overall style of the website. We establishing a road-map of your site, making it clear what text and images you’ll need. If your budget allows it, I bring in copy-writers and branding strategists as needed.
Step 3: First-draft Development
I set up WordPress on your hosting server and implement the content, layout and functionalities that will really make your website shine.
Reality test: I consult with you and discuss the first round of revisions. I’m confident you’re going to love my work, but I value your input and want to ensure your satisfaction.
Step 3-b (optional): World-Class Design
If included in the scope, I bring a professional graphic designer into the project. They discuss visual branding with you and create design comps based on our first draft. This is also a good time to acquire a logo and perhaps some collateral.
Once you approve of their designs, I go ahead and implement them on the live site using my technical abilities.
Reality test: It’s time for another consultation and a second round of revisions before finalizing the details.
Step 4: Tutorial
Before making the site publicly visibly I sit with you in person (or via Skype if you are too far), and explain clearly how to edit the text, images and navigation on the site and create entirely new pages. If your site has advanced features, I will teach you how to leverage those as well, and if you seem comfortable with computers I’ll show you some advanced tricks.
After the tutorial, I give you a week to make the site yours before launch so that everything is settled when the site goes live.
Step 5: Launch
What you’ve been waiting for. I point the domain, install visitor stats and spam protection, nudge the search engines and test for 100% functionality.
Even after the site is launched, I am available to provide ongoing support. If you need a refresher, I’ll send you a screencast. If you want more features, I’ll send you a quote.
