Adal

To me, Adal is first and foremost a given name.

Of ancient origins, the name Adal is found under various forms in many cultures: ‘Adil’ in Arabic means ‘justice’ or ‘with faith’. In most of Europe, Adel is a female version of the name. Most importantly, the exact name ‘Adal’ is from Germanic origins, precisely Teutonic. The meaning of the name, “noble”, justifies its widespread use in the Middle Ages as a prefix for composed names, such as ‘Adalhart‘ that translates to “Noble & Brave”.

There is one very famous… Adal Ramones.

Adal Ramones is the host of the Mexican talk show ‘Otro Rollo’ that has an international reach. He is best know for his social satire, the many celebrities he has received on his show and the various health problems he has overcome since 2000. The video presented here is one of his most famous colloquial monologues… sensitive Spanish speakers beware.

In Arab history, the Adal Sultanate was a great empire…

It reached across parts of what are now Somalia, Ethiopia, Djibouti and Eritrea from approximately 1415 to 1555. Born of a rebellion against the Ifat that it later conquered and included, Adal was later engaged in a territory war against the Ethiopians with support from the Ottoman empire. When this support disappeared, Adal fell to its enemy. Later the Ethiopians could not resist invasion from the Oromo people and Adal culture was twice forgotten.

In Rabac, Croatia the company ADAL sells power-tools.

Saws, drills, presses, conveyors, hammers, cranes and more… ADAL has the goods. Why they chose this name for their used and retail power-tool sales company is not clear on their website, but I will be sure to get this page updated once I find out!

Last but far from least, A’dal is part of WOW.

World of Warcraft is to video games what heroin is to drugs, so don’t be surprised that the largest amount of internet chatter around the name Adal concerns a shiny naaru that floats around the Terrace of Light next to Khagdar in a virtual town named Shattrath. Some players accuse the creature of being a manipulative PR specialist trying to take over, while others admire him for his good preachings about serenity and the such.

I can hardly understand how anyone would get emotional about a coded avatar, but this only proves that the internet is suited for everyone and how important it is to target the right audience when using the web to reach out for business.
